Our Week Ahead 7/29-8/2

One thing that I get asked quite often is, “how do you do it all?”. “How do you homeschool, keep a clean house, cook healthy meals from scratch, tend to a garden and animals, make it to social events (ok, maybe not so much of the latter.. let’s be real) etc..” And my answer is, “I don’t”. I don’t keep it all together all of the time. Things get pushed to the back burner from week to week. Sometimes we skip school. Sometimes the dishes sit in the sink for more than 24 hours. Sometimes I miss ripened vegetables in my garden and lose them to bugs, as I’ve been so consumed in other activities that I miss my gardening window one day. Those pesky bugs are ruthless! I’m definitely not the picture of a perfect house wife. I just do the best I can!

One thing that I am pretty good about sticking to, is a weekly plan. By the end of every weekend, I try to have a game plan in place for the week ahead. I like to sit down and plan out meals, make to do lists for errands and chores, and glance over the calendar and familiarize myself with upcoming appointments or bills due. This single hour of planning helps to propel me into the right direction of success for the days that lie ahead.

I want to share Our Week Ahead with you, in hopes to inspire you to start planning ahead and setting your family up for a successful week as well. Our Week Ahead will include a brief overview of our past week, our proposed meal plan and chore list for the week ahead. Please note that even though these things are written down and planned on, they don’t always happen. Remember these are my family’s gracious attempts. New recipes might not always work out and we might end up eating out instead. That’s life! We’ll just move along and try again the next week!

This Week’s Dinner Menu:

  • Monday- Taco Bowls
  • Tuesday- Spaghetti Squash, Meat Sauce & Salad
  • Wednesday- Cedar Plank Salmon, Roasted Green Beans & Sweet Potatoes
  • Thursday- Zuppa Toscana
  • Friday- Veggie Pasta
  • Saturday- Charcuterie
  • Sunday- Out to Eat

We will rotate between oatmeal, eggs and veggies, waffles, chicken sausage, fruit and smoothies for breakfast. Lunches will be mostly leftovers with the occasional salad or sandwich here and there. We do eat gluten and dairy free at home, so our bread and milk sources are alternatives that I’d be happy to share with you if you’re interested.

This Week’s Chore List:

  • Monday- Dishes, Wash Towels, Change Filters, Sweep off Porches
    • Errand Day- Library Run and Grocery Pick Up
  • Tuesday- Wipe Down Kitchen, Sweep/Mop Living Areas,
  • Wednesday- Dishes, 1 Load of Laundry, Gather Recycling
  • Thursday- Scrub Bathrooms, Plan School for Next Week, Clean out Fridge, Gather Trash
  • Friday- Dishes, Dust and Vacuum

We are starting school back up again this week. Though our extra curricular activities won’t start up until the beginning of September, we plan on getting an easy going head start now and slowly work our way into a full schedule. We are both excited for what the new school year holds. This week will be a big adjustment, as we have all been pretty lax all summer as far as bed times and screen time allowance goes. I’m sure there will be a brief detox period as we get back into the swing of things, but we’re ready. We’re ready for a little more structure and mental activity.

    Zappa Toscanini recipe please. Nice to know that I am not the only one who has to constantly update that “ to do” list. I am a calendar and list keeper or I would never get what I need to do done (and still don’t most of the time. lol). I have stacks of sewing projects I have just had to accept that they won’t get done until winter. lol

    1. You’ll love the Zuppa Toscana! So simple and yummy 🙂 And I agree, a to do list is a must!! Otherwise my mind would be all over the place all of the time! Writing it all down is the first step.. getting it all done.. well, that’s another story! 😉
